Are You Getting Static Shocks From Your Office Chair Or Furniture?

If you find you are getting static shocks from the furniture in your office, it’s likely that the carpet is the prime suspect.

Better quality carpets and office chair fabrics come with specially treated fabrics to prevent static build up that give you electric shocks as well as possibly damaging sensitive electrical equipment.

The other possible source is your office air conditioning as it dries the air and makes static build up more likely. A similar thing happens when you get out of your car, you sometimes get a belt on a hot summer’s day when you touch the door, yet it doesn’t happen on damp winter days.

A portable humidifier might help as the moisture it creates will help reduce static build up.

It may also be your clothing reacting with your chair’s fabric and creating a charge. Try different clothing and see if that helps, also try maintaining contact with your desk as you get up from your chair to try and ground the static.
